Default Need Rear Brake Lines - Broke an end while replacing wheel cylinders.

I'm having trouble finding these online. This is the line that goes out of the junction that sets on top of the driver side of the axle. I broke the longer one to the passenger and the driver side won't even budge so I think I will break it purposefully to remove it.

It's an all metal line with a spring shroud. I know some people have replaced it.

Did you get a direct fit part? Part number? Aftermarket or dealer only?

Or did you need to make your own with a flaring tool? What is involved with making this stuff?

94 Dakota 3.9 4x4, 9" rear brakes.

You wont be able to get a direct fit part. Any parts store will have brake line. Bending and flaring brake line does take some skill so if you have never done it before i would buy a practice peice. You should be able to rent a flaring tool from major auto parts stores. I just used a trailer hitch ball to bend my brake line, i have never liked using bending tools. Try it!

Trailor hitch huh? Sounds like a pretty good idea. I think I have access to a flaring tool.

Would you happen to know the diameter/ internal diameter of the brake line?

I found this. Doesn't look too bad. I have flared copper pipe for an air compressor before.

I'll probably use the old line to practice with.
So if I do both sides I'll need 4 banjo bolts and a yet to be determined length of line. The bolts are 10MM but I don't know the fitting size. I'm guessing they have some kind of sheath also?

From what it looks like from the parts catalog, its 3/16" OD tubing.
Pretty much all the tubing (not hose) listed in the parts manual is a 25ft roll of 3/16" brake line (its part #1843 251, incase you are wondering)

Actually, I've got basically all new brake system waiting to be installed, and would love to install new lines, but know it would be my luck that if I did, a fitting in a $1XX combination valve would get ruined. (Kind like how my "should be straight-forward, definitly time consuming however" transmission change is "kind straight forward, and about 3 times as time consuming as I thought it would be" is running into its 9th day)

Let us know what happens!

Advance auto parts carries premade sections. I got a 5 feet section for the right and like a 3 for the left. The 3 was too long but the other worked pretty good. I had to make a different bend around the rear transfer case. Only problem I see is that this line doesn't have the protective spring shield. Whenver it might be touching metal, I wrapped and zip tied rubber hose.

I actually made the bends carefully by hand. It seems pretty good. Brakes are all back togethor and all that is left it putting in a shorter section on the driver side and bleeding.

How tight do the line fittings need to be?

I have great news for you. I have a 1996 Dakota extra cab that had rusted out brake lines. It took me a while to find a place that sells prebent brake tubing exactly for your truck model but I finally came across http://www.classictube.com
They have brake lines or can make them to spec. in either OEM or stainless steel. I got the entire stainless steel set and installation went very well. My old lines were so bad that many of the fitting just twisted off while removing them. The new stainless lines should outlast the truck.
Best of luck.

Thanks. But I was able to just hand bend the lines. They don't follow the exact path as the old ones and the passenger side looks a little funny but they are functional. No clearance problems.

That site doesn't list an application for the 94 dakota. How much do they normally run?

I have both a 93 and 96 Dakota. My 96 had the rusty brake lines. Customtube did not have a pattern on file for the 96 club cab however looking at it and my 93 there is no difference between the two. They have a pattern for the 93 club cab so I ordered that set and the lines fit perfectly on my 96. The full set in OEM steel is $200 and the full set in Stainless steel is $225 plus about $21 for shipping.
They have bend pattern files and make the lines on computer ran equipment. They are very nice, with the correct springs around the lines and fittings and double flares are perfect. I do not think that I could have made a set of its equal because I do not have the flaring experience. Hope this info. helps.

Sounds nice but kind of pricey. That is unless that is the full line set front and back.
