I just bought a 91 dakota se and i've heard some of these have limited slip diffs. I have oversized tires 31s and want to make sure I don't have a limited slip if I get a smaller spare tire. Anyone know if this model came stock or any way to check out the differential to tell? Also I don't know if this has been posted before but why is there such a big power difference between 91 and 92 same size engine but way more hp. The fuel injection alone can't do that. Any mods I can do to get up to par with 92/93?

3.9L TBFI 125HP 1988-1991
3.9L MPFI 180HP 1992-1993
3.9L MPFI 175HP 1994-1996

The 91-down were the LA.
The 92-up were Magnum.
The magums have roler and hydrolic lifters 1.6 rockers larger valves higher compression betterengine flow. Multiport injection.Check out allpar.com for more details
There are pleanty of upgrades you can do like small stuff plugs wires coil. exhaust. To bigger things larger lifters ported heads highter cam all that kind of things. Check out summitracing.com Moparperformance.com jegs.com for anything you need

yeah thanks for your help I'll see what I can do to up the hp or just look for amagnum3.9 or even 5.2 if it's reasonable

my 94 5.2 comes stock with 220, so dodge says, but as for your origional question jack the truck up and do the wheel spin test to see if you have a open dif or not.

just do a good burnout, 1 mark it is an open diff. 2 marks it is a limited slip!!!!

i have to have excuses not to burn out. damn 5.2 is to much torque for the open diff any water on the roads and if i drop gear going under 30 ill burnout and hold it tilll i hit 55.

ok i have a 92 3.9l magnum... i did a burnout with 31" mudders both tires did the smoke show ... and every once ina while its like its only one well it is only one... so what does that mean ?
as well as what about the 4x4.. should both front tires spin? just curious !!! any input would be greatly appreciated ~!!!

you have the LSD then if both went. and if sometimes its only one means you had a corner or something and it unlocked the dif. but yeah i would say you have the LSD. and no you probably have a open front
