Default 1994 V8 Auto trans

Has anyone replaced their 92-95 Dakota V8 auto trans with a V8 auto from a truck or van same years?

Can it be done and what was needed to make it happen?

Hollander says only Dakota will interchange..any idea why?

Dealer is no help and trans shops are close second..

any help will be appreciated.

Lots of people have swapped trannys from truck to truck. just make sure that the tranny is the same and bolt her in. I dont know if the tranny out of a dodge van will work, it may if it is the same motor and the same generation. May have to fab up some tranny mounts.

How can you tell if the trans is the same? other than the outward appearance. How about electronics? If it plugs in should I assume it is the same?

No, the plugs are pretty much just mfg. stock. They're probably the same on ALL Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth from that model year (and probably several years). There should be a part number, or code associated with the tranny that should be stamped on it somewhere (usually on top). Search the internet for other vehicles using the same tranny, and you'll be set.
