Default 92 3.9 Dak dieseling?

Hey, i got a '92 Dak 3.9 automatic, and randomly it will diesel and backfire, but if I downshift, or floor the gas pedal it will come out of it and runs great. Distributor, plug wires, & plugs are only 2000mi old, and ignition coil is brand new. I just got this truck, and I'm not too familiar with Dodge trucks. If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Since this is my first post, here's a pic of my Dakota

I don't think the distributor is out of adjustment because the truck would run funky all of the time but this problem has no pattern. today the truck would crank but not fire.jeeps do this when the CPS is bad, so i replaced it. truck starts fine now, but the problem is still there, but less frequent.

i was actually wondering the same thing, cause my 91 3.9 does the same thing sometimes, like not all the time, maybe 20% of the time i drive it, i replaced everything on it and only when i take off it is really hessatent and i dont feel any power sometimes, i would like to know why it does that, and other times i feel it pull nice, so im wondering myself aswell
