Electrical probs, Head, tail and brake lights
1992 Dakota - 3.9
A couple of days ago the tach stopped working, the Brake and Anti-lock lights came on and stayed on. I noticed when I release the Parking Brake the Brake light gets dimmer but does not go out. Checked fuses (all good) and removed the Tach from the dash.
Checked the headlights and they were not working (Fuse again good) - Taking it a bit further and checked just about everything:
Headlights, Driving lights, brake lights, dash lights, cabin lights, horn, and tach not working- (already had problem with gas gauge but that is another issue)
Hazards, radio, turn indicators, check engine, Seat belt, Oil pressure, temp, battery gauge, AC,all working
Going to check the switch next- I can see how it might affect most of the lights, but the Brake lights, horn and tach are puzzling
any suggestions or advice?
Thanks
SilverRick

light switch take off light switch. look on light switch prongs . find H male prong go to the wire plug find the H hole a jump wire to red&white wire in plug lights should work if they do change light switch. the red&white wire inthe loom should be hot all the time check with test light
i had a 90 comanchee years ago and the daytime running light module went on me, it messed up all the power, lights that where supposed work didn't and lights that where supposed to be off light up.my 89 dakdoesn't have one but if yours does it might be worth checking.
I checked the light switch - I have 12V to the switch, jumpered the hot lead to the H termianl...No lights. I assume the light switch is good since the cabin lights come on when I rotate the ****.
the fuse in the PDC is good, (40A)
I recently had brakes done, including the parking brake- Could there be something involving the RWAL module? It seems a lot of things go through it (it is a bit of a pain to get to but I have the dash off now anyway) The other common point seem to be the instrumet panel / Tach module which houses the two indicator lamps.
It seems I may be chasing more than one problem here!

I had the same problem . I had a corrosian problum it eat connector in the wire plug going through fire wall driver side down low where it can get wet 5/16 bolt holds it together may your h lead wire rotted out . my bad wire was the red & white. the bolt goes through a rubber boot move the boot back to check wires. unplug rubber boot connector if you use a ohms meter to check dis connect battery . the h color wire should go back through wire loom you think going tohead light plug mine a broken red&white wire an bad light switch now the only is the abs light did not go out.working on it will get back to you . check h wire to head light plug
i noticed the same wire was corroded when i was checking for an electrical problem. the rest where fine but that one was greener than a four leaf clover. i cleaned it up and put dielectric grease on the wire and boot to be sure. it's worth checking.

flyer wins cup your red&white wire was green to. i seen oanother page that said the red &white did not go to the PDC fuse box. i ran a jumoer wire from the out side of the 50 amp fuse side checked with ohm meter that ihow i found the broken wire at the fiure wall plug it was a mess went to junk yard an got the whole plug to get just one connector now ihave extra dodge does not sell the connector buy its self. buy the whole wire loom.
gets water in it and rots that main line. like i said big guy clean it, and cover it with dielectric grease, seal the boot. i haven't checked my diagrams but i know that wire supplies a lot of power to a lot of s**t. mess it up and your are in a whole world of hurt.
i found out if the engine quits go to the computer. if abs quits there is to ways to check 6 prong scan or get codes ground wire by the computer. read abs light . the power in the truck cab comes in throught head light switch & ingnetion. do you know how to fix abs code 7.
