Ya these sensors are a commen problem. But low oil pressure at idle is still okay. Once you press it even a little and the pressure goes up then its ok. The sensor is back by the distributer.

Many years ago, my oil gauge read low. I was going to plumb in a mechanical gauge to check it, but didn't have the proper socket to remove the sending unit, so I looked around the shop for something to clean the contacts, just in case there was some corrosion there. I couldn't find a proper product (Lectramotive?), so I sprayed it with carburetor cleaner. In a couple of days, the gauge started reading higher pressure, and it's been good ever since (probably 10 or more years). Hey... it's worth a try.

Hey guys!
I'm not a mechanic... I even seem to get myself in trouble changing shocks but just a heads up. My oil pressure gage started acting crazy six or so months ago and I told my mechanic in detail what it was doing. Mostly just low and would bottom out but would go back to normal when I hit the gas... etc. He said "oh prolly your oil sending unit... don't worry about it just keep an eye on your levels"... So I did and about two months later I get home and notice that my truck is acting kinda funny. (and believe me she talks to me... we have a connection lol) looked under neith and there is a considerable amount of oil in the driveway (less than half a quart... ok so I'm kinda sensitive). I got back in and moved it ten feet further into the garage where she leaked quite a bit more. I freaked and had it towed. My mechanic replaced the "cracked" sending unit. Don't get me wrong I absolutely love my mechanic and recommend him to everyone I see. My point is that if I had been on one of my many trips (which will be less now with the gas prices) i figure I would have burned her up! Would have torn me to pieces. Take that as you will!
