Default Rod knocking?

Is there a way of testing for a bad rod? My truck has developed what sounds similar to a rod knocking noise when sitting at a certain angle or sometimes when you hit the gas from a stop.

disable the spark plug wire on the cylinder you think it is and if the noise goes away when you disable that cylinder its most likely rod knock

take a 3/8 steel rod, put bit against each cylinder and your ear. if its only one cylinder its probably the rod. if its everywhre than it could be the o2sensor. mine ran rich and it sounded like a bad rod.
