convert 87 to tb
i don't even think the intake has to be changed. you do have to add a computer, high pressure fuel pump (probably a fuel tank), wiring, relays, duel point throttlebody, etc. not tryin' to discourage you but for the power increase it's probably not worth it. look at a 2 barrel aftermarket carb. lot less work and the power increase would be close to equal.
The previous post is good advise. According to the specs, the factory single barrel carb and the later throttle body used to 91 had the same horse power output. (125HP)
I did read somewhere that someone had fitted a 4barrel carb and got some gains.
You might also consider forced air induction, bigger exhaust, and different cams to enhance power. I know my brother noticed a marked difference when he got an MSD ignition (84 ram charger with 360). That may also be of benefit as the pre 1992 3.9L is the same basic engine short 2 cylinders.
Good luck whatever way you wish to go.

here's one for ya, i took the small black plastic covering over the air intake by the rad off. used a dremmel to cut out the recessed part. put 2 layers of 1/4 chicken wire over it offset to make the holes 1/8 (keep the bugs out), four screws on each corner to hold the wire in place, instant forced air induction.
The 3.9 1987 Dakota was the only Carberated Dodge Dakota and that was made and this model is a two barrel stock carberator. you can look this up on dodge Forum fAQ at https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen-dakota-tech/71332-faq-general-info-common-problems-factory-service-manuals.html
there is a little difference if your running a 2.2l or 3.9L
here is a fool proof web site that will tell you if you have a 1 or a 2 barrel
