Default my uncle's 340

rode up behind my uncles 340 72 duster. he saw me and gave some gas. i had a 90 high output comanchee (low weight, 180 horsepower and 2.70 gears) figured would at least stick with him. after he was done spraying me with burnt rubber, he dissappeared down the road. i could not believe how fast he blew off the line. ever scince then i've been a huge 340 fan.
anybody puts the 340 in there dak is a fan of mine. that much power and low weight. sweeeeeet.

you should get a dak yourself and put a 340 or better in it then blow your uncle's doors off.

Theres a guy up here by me with a 340 Duster and a what looks like a 671 blower, the f----er is fast and sounds mean, small car big cubes equal goodtimes. His car was signed by george barris, apparently the master himself was impressed

mine has a 3.9 and it seems to be a good solid engine. i have 3.90 in the front and rear diffs. (just finished rebuilding the front one). it wont break any speed records but if anyone in a truck wants to run me i just point at any muddy loggin road and say let's dance.
i can't even imagine what a 340 with a blower would do! he has to have the rare 4 bolt mains to handle all that extra horsepower.

I have a 408 in my 94 dakota. I like it so far. I took the rearend out of a 1999 R/T dakota with 3.90 gears's (with some welding) and put in my 94 because of breaking axles in the 8.25". One day I will go to the track and I will post e/t's I will post some pic's soon.

WOW a 408! Nice! Correct me if Im wrong, but a 408 is a stroked 360. Do you use a magnum engine block or the older LA engine? What kind of power you expect your putting out? Are you running carb or EFI?

the 360 dodge and 360 AMC engines where pretty close for horsepower and torque. the AMC 401 was a bored and stroked 360 and put out 330 horsepower (before they lowered the compression ratio) so that might give you a rough estimate crazy. i would like to know the exact figures myself.

It is a 78 model LA 360 block with the 4" stroke bored .030 over. I am running a set of W2 heads with 2.08 valves and Harland Sharp Roller Rockers. I have Ross Pistons, Eagle Rods, Mopar Crank, Comp Cam (20-243-4), Indy Intake, Bigs Carb and MSD Ignition on pump gas.

I hoping to see around 450hp but you never know. I will post the numbers when I get it to a dyno.

It gets about 10mpg right now but I expect it to increase a little once it breaks in. Possibly 12 with a slight tail wind.
