Default Durango 9.25 swap?

Went to the junk yard yesterday and found a 99 durango with a 9.25 rearend with a trac-lock and 3.55 gear. will these swap into our trucks? if so i am going to get it mainly for the LSD. but it would be nice to have the sway bar and extra strenth too while i was at it! It will only be 150 dollars with the drums on it so it is way cheper than putting a new carrier in mine.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, you might have to fab up new mounts for the suspension and such but size wise i think it would work, really not sure if the driveshaft on the dak would be compatible or if the driveshaft on the D would bve compatible with the dak drive line. Something to look at

Well it will bolt in and the width is the same. But I belive there are no shock locations on durangos axle. I may be wrong. I belive the brake line threads are the same. And I belive the yoke has a flang you bolt the driveshaft to. Oh yea 2wd should be axle over springs. 4wd is oposite. And I would love to do this one day. Give me all the info you get when you get it done. Have fun.

i put one in my 94 dakota. The only problem is one of the shock mounts were facing the wrong way. I cut it off and rewelded it. Everything else is good. it even has larger brakes which will help (on some). I know that 99 R/T's had two sizes of break shoes. I had to replace the backing plates on mine after twisting them. About $250.00 mistake!

Oh and the drive shaft yoke was different on mine. I just used the one off the 8.25 if I recall. I bolted right up. Just make sure you get the correct pre load on the bearings.

The 9.25 lsd is junk Thats what I have in mine and it's blown. I picked pieces of the clips and a piece of clutch pack out of the bottom of mine. I didn't even know there was a problem I just was replacing the pinion bearing and poped the cover off to clean and change the fluid and found the lovely present. Mine still works but I want to find a open diff or find a way to convert mine.

well i got the rearend in there but i have to figure out someway to get the brakes hooked up!!! the durango line will not fit the hard line going back and the dakota line will not fit the lines on the rearend. so i am going to have to do some fabbing i guess to get it too fit, pisses me off because that is the only thing keeping me from doing donuts tomorrow!!!

You should've tried for an '03 for the disc brakes.

wish i could have found one.... selections in the j yard where i live are few with trucks, so i figured for a 12 with drums and sway bar for 149.99, not a bad deal. i am going to keep an eye out for some disc brakes for the back though. i ordered a line that might ork, will find out tomorrow!
