Default bought a 318 for the dak

got it from an 83 dodge 1/2 ton, runs great, no smoke, leaked a little oil, and it came w/ the tranny... i havent checked to see if its the 727 or the 904 but i'll get around to that bc its a 2wd tranny and idk if i wanna run a divorced case or just get the 4wd tranny so i can run a 205/203 doubler. i have the engine stripped down to just the bottom end minus the oil pan. ive painted everything and i have all new gaskets and a new rear main seal for it. i installed new freeze plugs b4 i painted it so im hoping it'll last a bit. the cam is a little chewed up so im going to put a better cam in it as well as lifters, im looking at this 1

but this 1 has a little more duration to it

this is a cheap build but i think it has a lot of potential. i just want to make sure i get the right cam considering i dont know much about them or what i need. thanx for all the help guys... btw im gonna get some pix up

sounds pretty good, you should get the heads shaved to bumb the compression up some. allpar.com is a good resourse of info on all dodge engines.

ah its a budget build so im just gonna run it... i'd rather have the bigger intake ports than the compression. i might find me another and totally go thru it later on but for now im just doin the cam, and headers. besides... i have a dana 60 i have to get under there lol

Whatever you do, do NOT skimp on the cam. I would NOT go with a Summit cam. Do Comp, Voodoo, etc. It also depends on what you want the truck for, street, strip, etc. You will pay a higher price for a better cam, but it is worth it.

Also, running flat tappet you need to break it in with alot of Zinc and use Zinc oil for it or the cam will go bye bye.

This could be used for a mild build on the street. I love my Eddy Air Gap intake. Start with what you want with the cam first, then head down the list of the other things. Carb, Torque Converter, etc.
