New member with Dakota dreams
Hello, name is James and I live in NYS. I just bought an 87 Dakota 2wd, 3.9l auto. This rig is GENNIE! Not a spot of rust, bondo, nothing. The interior even looks great. Here's the plan. I want to build a gasser out of it. I am only 29 but have always loved gassers. I have already built one 53 Chevy and a 65 Mustang. Don't know what it is about the Dakota but the front end reminds me of the old Dodge 330's. Already have a 360 that I scored for $25 bucks. I have pocket ported the heads, harland sharp rockers, etc. The motor will look factory right down to a dual snorkel air cleaner. The outside is already bumperless with a moon tank on the way. Hood will have dual snorkel design scoop. The grill will be cut next to headlights to duct cold air to the air cleaner. Interior will be red, no headliner, no carpet, no radio, the window regulators will be seat belts like the old darts. The bench seat is staying in with swiss cheese brackets. Rear glass will be Lexan. Spaghetti shifter I have already made for it. The truck will ride on steel wheels painted white with cheater slicks on the rear and skinnies up front. The front gasser stance will come via spring boosters made by myself. Not that crap on the internet. That's the plan, my goal is to have it at least driving under it's own power and ready to drag and cruise come May. For now it's my daily driver though. Enjoy the pics.
