95 dakota running poorly
i have a 95 dakota 4x4 v8 and when i get to around a half tank of gas the truck run bad. misses so bad under a load that the dash shakes. fill it up and it runs great. anyone ever had this problem?
Must obviously be a fuel pick up problem in the tank. Only way to tell that I can think of is to drop the tank and take out the pump-filter-regulator assembley and inspect it. If I were you while I was at it and had everything apart I would replace this assembley. If you are having fuel delivery probs and this is the place where the prob originates then all the other peices are likely on their way out as well. You can replace these parts individually but sure as shootin you will fix one and then the next one will act up shortly there after. This is not cheap by any means but if you are getting the work done for you you will have to pay to drop the tank every time the next part fails. I have a 94 v8 powered Dak and it stumbled like hell when my fuel pump started to go south. I figured since the other parts are the same age as the pump then they are all going. Hope this helps. Those are sounds of a weak pump. But next time it dies get out and take off the gas cap and listen for high vaccuum. If you can get back in and drive away. Might have a pluged vent
well atleast im not the only one! my 95 dakota does the same thing...but it does it when im at around 1/4 tank of gas and running on the highway...it'll putt so bad that if I try to accelerate it'll start making popping noises and won't go over 50. I figured it was the pump/filter...dad doesn't believe me tho :-/
yeh i have a 95 also and the damn thing shakes really bad also....its usually around a 1/4 tank of gas or less....i just posted asking for info also..... good luck

funny things happen to mine as well... I ended up replacing the entire wiring harness to all the sensors and it ran great for weeks, not when I got to get it inspected it's eating gas and will not pass inspection.. @ cold start it runs fine but after it warms up a lil there's a spot off idle that it bogs a tad.. miles per gallon have dropped, all sensors are new but I read that a 195 degree thermostat will allow the computer to think it's warm tot he correct temp and stop running so rich... well anyways I'm gonna try that tonight and re check all the connections and wires, vaccum, lines and hoses for craks etc, one may be loosened a bit....
My '95 3.9/auto Club Cab has been doing the same thing. Just after 1/2 tank, it starts running rough and slowly gets worse as the fuel level goes down. I fill up to over 1/2 and everything is fine!
With many people having this problem, it sounds like it has something to do with the assembly/design. But I would like to know/understand WHY it's doing that! It's almost as if there is a vacuum leak in the pick-up below a 1/2 tank. I just never had the assembly out and don't know how it all works together or even what it looks like. I'm use to external fuel pumps and filters. It seems that if it were a weak pump, it would do it all the time and I can't believe that so much crud had accumulated in the tank that it clogs the filter/pick-up at almost 1/2 full! I've run it almost dry to eliminate the possibility of "bad" gas, but it continued with fresh gas too.
