Default Manual Brakes.

I have a 1987 2 wheel drive Dakota. I have power brakes but want to go to manual brakes. Its for weight loss off the front end. I was wondering what all I needed for this swap. My truck is a play toy.

i would pull the fron clip off before the power brakes. especially if you have a 360 in it!! just my opinion i guess.

I agree! I would not recommend doing that! I have a 1950 desoto. Manual brakes and its the hardest thing to stop at 40mph. I cant imagine if it was faster. The weight you will loose is probably 2lbs. Its not worth safty. If your making it a dragster you probably will get up to 80mph at the 1/4mile. Now stoping at the speed in a hurry will be scary if you dont have power assisted. If you want to loose weight then take out the interior, carpet ac blower system , inner fender wells, spare tire, tailgate, all of that.

Cool, I understand. Im running a tad bit over 100 mph in the 1/4 so I better keep the power brakes. Thanks for the input.

If you are talking about just removing the booster and keeping the disk brake master cylinder and rotors. Then you will not have a problem on some cars stopping, but you will have to stand on the peddle. But you could get the same weight transfer if you slide the seat all the way back . There is just not any weight advantage to manual brakes .Put the battery in the back and put in the smaller tank.
