Default Stripped lugs, rim wont come off

So i bought new tires today and had them balanced and mounted. They told me they could get one of the rims off because it was stuck. So i told them i will take it to my friend that works on cars. When i brought my buddy the truck the lugs were stripped. So the place i got the tires from must have stripped them. Now the ****s not gonna come off at all. So they are going to need to cut the studs. Well what are my options. I know i need the front passenger wheel bearing which this is the side the rim wont come off. Should i let the place i bought the tires do it since they stripped the lugs? Also should i try and have them pay for it?

I want to hear all of my possibilites for my situation.

Thanks

Jake

All you have to do to remove stripped lugs is take a socket that is smaller than the lug and pound it on with a hammer. Then back it off with an air gun. You may have to do this a couple times, make sure you have a high enough powered air setup.

You can try and ask the shop to fix their mistake. Trying never hurt.. it would also only cost them 5 minutes and the price of lugnuts.

If it were me, I would not stop until they do pay for it. My best guess as to what happened (assuming you went to a store that does tires only and is was not a certified mechanic shop) is that some part time, after school, probably new and inexperienced person worked on it and chances are if you take it back with a huge complaint the manager or one of their top guys will fix it.

Dude that sucks! You should have shop fix it, but those places will never admit they did it! But fight it the best you can. So your best bet is most likly is to fix it your self. You can try the smaller socket size trick. Sometimes that will work.

I had striped mine once at the dragstrip. I had to drive back home on my slicks! Good thing I didnt get pulled over! I just got my
Craftsman Bolt-Out™ Damaged Bolt/Nut Remover Set
These have a reverse teeth that dig into the nut while you remove it. It worked perfectly for me. Here is a pic of them. You can get them at Sears or anywhere online.

WHEN GETTING NEW TIRES, OR HAVING THEM BALANCED, OR HAVING A FLAT FIXED...
never, never, never allow the tire people to use an air gun on your wheels!
always, always, always have them use a torque wrench to the required specifications.
They break off studs all the time and then say it was your fault.
You'll be hard pressed to get them to repair or pay for the repair.

All depending on where you went to get your tires... If its a corporation like Big 10, Tires Plus ect. If you complain loud enough they will fix it. They dont want the hassel of you sending a complaint to the big wigs of the corp. If you do it yourself. If the studs are stripped and bad enough then you may have to break them off. If its just the lug nut try the smaller size socket trick. Sometimes the Aluminum casing comes off the 3/4" lugnut. When this happens it changes the lugnut to a 18mm.

Like I said buy the nut remover and you will have it done in 5min or less! That is the easyest way.

Now if you want the cheepest way try the smaller socket size!
