Default 93 5.2 transmission swap

I currently have a 93 dakota extended cab 4x4 with an automatic and was wondering what all was needed to change it over to a 5 speed. i have seen many different transmissions suggested from the ax-15 to the nv 3500 also wondering if it is possible to keep the automatic transfer case or if there is a better one. i plan to lift the truck with a good set of 33's with a little more power and just want to know what the best bet would be for a daily driver and weekend warrior. thank you for any information

that would be alot of work, you'd have to swap the trans, put in a clutch, cut a hole in the floor for the shifter and mount it and I think you'd need a computer from a truck with a manual trans.

Your best bet is a NV3500. They were found stock in dakotas with v8s in 94-96. Just make sure you get a 4wd version. The transfer case is a nv231 these are stock on all dakota all types of trannys and engines. And they are not automatic they are manual shift. Its a strong unit. You will have to do some wireing and computer may put out a code for not reading the auto tranny but It will still run. The ax-15 is for the 4cy and v6. The FAQ has alot of the info on trannys and years and engines. You wil need a good lift to run the 33s. For lift info check the FAQ2.

doesn't the 93 have a 46rh as the stock auto? I would think then that there shouldnt be any computer problems with a swap as the rh is hydraulic.

The 93 would have 46rh There is only one code that would come up. 37 Torque converter clutch solenoid CKT or park/neutral switch failure Even tho it is hydralic it still has computer controls.
