Beginner Question on blown front diff
#3
I can't really tell all I know is the diff overheated, looks like it shot fluid from the passenger side cv joint.
It happened when I couldn't get the 4x4 dis-engaged I pulled over could smell the hot fluid, was able to get it back in 2wd and drove home smooth.
I just don't want to do any more damage and need to save for the repair if possible.

You can take off the CV axles. Its easy.
The CV joints dont have any diff fuild in it. They are entirely different systems. The CV has a grease in it. The boots do rip and it sprays out the grease. But right before the cv axle the diff does has axle seals that may leak out diff fuild. You should take off the front diff cover to see what is happening in there.
