Default 95' Dodge Dakota Sport: Acceleration loss, engine's shakes, back-fire's

I own a 95’ Dodge Dakota Sport, 2.5L, 4-cyclinder, 2 wheel drive truck.

Recently I had work done on my blower motor, water pump, and fuel filter via a private mechanic. After driving my truck for approximately 130 miles after the mechanics it began to lose acceleration, feel weak and slightly back-fired. I replaced my spark plugs, wires, and distributor cap and upon doing so I tried to start my truck and it was dead. I jumped it, drove around, parked, tried to start again and wouldn’t turn over. After leaving my truck for a few hours I started my truck no problem. Upon taking it for a drive it I could not accelerate over 35 mph without the truck back-firing. Acceleration was very slow and gradual despite the gas pedal being to the floor. I took the truck on the highway and could not accelerate over 45 mph and the engine felt like it was shaking from side-to-side and often front-to-back with the occasional back-fire.

For the sake of the trucks history: I put in a rebuilt transmission two years ago, oil changed every 3000 miles, in August of 08’ I replaced the water pump, heater blower motor, and fuel filter.

I was hoping someone can point me in the right direction in replacing necessary parts to get my truck running properly once again.

Thanks and Happy Holidays

Does it have an EGR? It might be bad. How about O2 sensors? One could also be bad. Catalytic Converter could be clogged.

Is the fuel filter in the tank, with the pump on those 4-bangers?

Would any one of these explain the shaking of the engine?

Bad EGR can cause it, same with bad O2 sensors in some cases. A clogged converter could cause the vehicle not to reach speeds much over 40mph.
