'95 radio and HVAC troubles
I have had some troubles with the HVAC and radio recently. The truck will start and run fine. But the HVAC blower will not work. Sometimes I can start the vehicle and the blower will work on all speeds. Now it will not. Also, the radio display will not come on, nor will it play. I can turn it on and nothing. When I turn it off I can here a slight blip through the speakers.
Have I got a faulty relay somewhere? Fusees are all fine. Now what?

The resistor is fine. I had to do that 2 years ago and checked it again recently. Here is what I now know. I checked under the power block under the hood, nothing there to alarm me. I then checked the fuses again. They were all good, but after pulling the blower fuse and reinstalling, the blower works again!. I is my thought that I have a loose connection to the blower from the fuse block. I have yet to find it, but the blower is now working.
A test light indicates that I get power to the radio, radio display, and memory power. The radio still will not play. Oddly enough the head unit appears to be dead with out notice.
So, one problem down, one to fix. Wonder if the radio is repairable?

While doing some more electrical testing, I blew out the 4 AMP ash tray and radio display fuse. Yippe! I went to AutoZone, good luck on finding the 4 amp fuse, I had to buy a pack. Anyway, I replaced the fuse. The blower motor stopped working, but the radio display came alive.
Next trick is to check out the fuse block. Unless any here has other ideas

The Radio head still is funky. But the issue with the blower motor is a bad connector pluf at the resister terminal. There is a crack at the lead. A quick fix is the use putty epoxy to shore up the plug or hope for a junk yard find and splice.
Dingo, I just went through the same thing with the connector being bad. I simply cut the wires off one at a time and crimped on a 1/4" quick disconnect terminal & everything works fine. Cost? Nothing, with a generous donation from my workplace.

I had thought of doing the same thing, with the plug. Having said that, I more than particular about OEM equipment, then I came up with the epoxy putty idea. Funny, but i think we may shop at the same store!
The radio as it turns out had ash in the circut boards. Since I quit smoking a few years back I had never thought of ash from the cigar lighter getting into the radio head unit. One I took apart the head unit and blew the ash from the circut boards the radio returned to regular operation. SO TA DA! my problems are fixed
