Default magnum 3.9 swap in 88 dakota

I have an 88 dakota 4x4 with a bad 3.9l.. I also have a 96 dakota 4x4 with a 3.9l magnum that is totaled. Can I swap the engine and transmission from the 96 into the 88 if I use the wiring and computer and maybe the fuel tank and pump? Thanks just trying to save a little money--got plenty of time not a lot of cash.

You deffintly can! It will be plenty of work swaping over all the wires and everything. But it is possible. If I remember correctly the motor mounts are in the same location and it should be petty much a bolt in project. I dont think you need to do much fabercating. The only thing may be you would need to swap over the dash gauges and stuff. That may need some new mounting holes or something. And keep in mine 96 is OBD2 which everything from the 96 will need to be there.

that will be acrazy amount of wiring!!! i have a 96 and as crazy said, it was the first and only year of OBD2 for the first gens. if you really want to do it, but it would not be worth it in my opinion, if i was going to go trough all of the trouble of a magnum engine i would go 318/360. but some people do like the v6, so its up to you!
