i know this has been asked before but i cant seem to find the info

what i would like to know is what all do i need to do to swap a magnum 5.2 in place of a pre magnum 3.9 v6 my truck is a 91 4x4 dak i know where i can get a 89 5.2 but i dont know what would be involved in swaping that motor in eather i dont know if it would be a plug and plat type deal or what also does any one know if anyone makes a TB that will replace the one on the 91 for more cfm if so could i just get a carb intake and run the new TB thanks for the help

 

You would definitely need the computer to go with the magnum motor and a transmision that is compatible with the year of the motor. I know '92-'93 used a very slightly different transmission than '94-'95, and that the trans from a '96 will only work with a '96 system. The trans for the 3.9 will not hold up to the magnum, nor is it compatible. I only know because I was searching for a trans for my '92 dakota and this is what I learned on my quest

 

The FAQ2 in this section has all of the links you need. As for the motor, 89 is not a magnum. Magnum engines started in 92-up.

 

i know that the 89 is not a magnum but i was just thinking if someone made a TB that will plug into the 91 wireing i found a complete 89 premag for $50.00 and i drove the rig the day the motor was pulled and i have the ext manifold from a 93 magnum and i was also wondering if the transmission from a 93 dak if i use the bellhousing from the 93
