I always wanted to do tires like this but rather than lift the body or drop the suspension I wanted to cut the fenders to clear - that'd most likely have the 38's sticking up through the hood!

thx Crazy, i ment to edit that, but it takes about 10 min on dial up... i decided to go work on the truck instead. ill have a look under the hood for gearing. thx for the link and suggestions guysit is quite a gap between the frame and body. i might put a strip of rubber hanging down like what you have by the front tires, but its not on the priority list right now.added some braces on the box spacers

with a 10in taller tire i need a bit more than 5 in clearance. this shows the wheel at full turn with the 2 in spacers

LOL! I'm sure glad your doing it and not me. That would just be giving me a headache. Maybe to cover the gaps use sheet metal. I had to use some for my fender wells/ splash shield my headers melted my old ones.

I added some more braces. i think it will be very solid. I might put one more on the front box spacer.

I also added some square tubing in the front of the frame to act as a skid plate. it will also prevent any flexing/twisting as it boxed in the whole section. I think ill put some further back too

Picked these up tonight. they are from an 04 Dakota. 16x8. he had a set of 20s on it so these are like new. hopefully my tire guy is around in the morning and i can get started cutting fenders!

Sweet! I got a set of those wheels off an '01 Dakota about a month and a half ago. The guy was selling all 4 for $125. They look great on our trucks. I can't wait to see the finished product.

LOL! Ya it is a monster! I love it! Just to see I measured the same spot and I got a 72in. So 6 more inches then me thats sweet. I deffently want to see how these axles hold up to 38s. Let us know when you get to that point. And what else do you have to do? Just clearance issues?

mostly just cutting fenders and then im spray bombing it black. im going to add some strips of steel to the keys to get a couple more in of lift in the front. it would level the truck, the rear sits higher with no weight on it now. also i think it might rub as is, if it hit a bump with the wheels cut or go around a hard corner i cant cut or smash any more out of the way without compromising structural integrity of the front cab mounts. i can get about 95% of full wheel cut without rubbing the frame(it dented in nicely in the front), so im not going to bother cutting it. i think im going to order a set of Pacer flexy flares. the extra wide version adds 4.5in to the wheel well. http://www.pacerperformance.com/
the front tires stick way out past the stock fender flares, and there really wouldnt be much besides the tops if i cut them to fit. pic of the rear:
