3.9 tb upgades
i hear alot about puting v8 tb's on v6s. is it just as simple as it sounds? what else should i know? are 5.2's or 5.9's better? can i put a spacer under it still? thanks
Spacers for our throttle bodies are better suited as paper weights. The 5.2 has the same throttle body as the 5.9, and yes it could not be easier to swap. It shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes.
1) Remove the air cleaner box
2) Unhook the throttle cables (there should be 3 if you have an auto w/ cruise ctrl)
3) Unhook the wiring harnesses (there should be 3)
4) Unbolt the throttle body from the intake (4 bolts)
5) Swap the sensors to the new throttle body (unless it already has them... there should be 3, each one has 2 torx bolts)
6) Reassemble (replace the gasket as you deem necessary)

Besides the donor engine, you'll also need a computer, transmission (the 42rh can't put up with the torque of a v8 for long so you'll need a 46rh), wiring harnesses for the extra 2 fuel injectors and spark plugs. Other than that I think the mounts are the same (but don't hold me to it). There is a lot more info in the FAQ2 section than what I can give you cause my truck started as a v8.
You're best bet is to find a donor truck that has everything you need. As far as cost goes, if you can do the work yourself, it just depends on how much you can find the parts for at a junk yard. If I were to throw out a number, the cheapest you could probably do the swap for if you do all the work is about $500-600 and that is based on how much I've seen people selling parts trucks for on my local craigslist that have a good running engine/transmission.
