Default Transfer Case Swap??

First time posting. I have a 95 Dak with a 231D TC that is shot. I found a 231J TC for cheap, and was wondering if I can swap them. Or if not what needs to be replaced? Input shaft different length? please help.

Welcome to the forum!

Honestly, you would be better off calling New Process and asking them the difference. Maybe someone on here can tell you for sure what the differences are. What I can tell you is when I did the auto to manual transmission swap in my truck, the two NP231 transfer cases I had at the time were nearly identical except for the input shaft length. Now I don't know anything about the NP231J, but I would assume stuff like the input shaft would be swappable between it and yours if thats the only difference.

Taking a quick glance at my friends 1996 Cherokee (4.0L and AX-15 five-speed manual), it looked like the transfer case is at a steeper angle (downwards, front yoke down) than the Dodge.
He's still undecided what he's gonna do with his JHeep, otherwise I'd have the transfer case out and would be able to tell you if it actually is just a easy swap.
