I would be prepared for a little more than that to get the thing off. In my experience it is the worst part of replacing a water pump. If you take the clutch off the fan will come with. I have never unbolted my fan, but then again I am working with a V6 so I have a little more room to move around in. The only bolts though should be the ones you have for the fan to the clutch.
