Default 92 Dakota-lifter

Any issues with lifters in the early motors?, 5.2. I have one just making noise and someone was telling me they made different ones later to fix the issue.

Nothing I know of. Lifters usually fail due to oil issues. Not enough oil, not the right weight. Dirty oil.

Too many short drives .If you don't run the engine at full temp long enough .Sludge and varnish builds up in the engine .Varnish screws up the metering of oil to the lifter . Switch to synthetic and add EOS (engine oil suppliment ) .It's a GM product that has zinc in it .

I have been doing some short driving. I did a good cleaning of the engine with that seafoam product and have been giving it oil changes at 5k. I think I will change the oil and then take the valve covers off to see which lifter on the pass side is not pumping up. I should probably just get the heads done while I am at it and pull those.

Well I pulled it apart. I checked oil pressure with a mechanical guage and it was good pressure. The one lifter would not pump up at all so replaced them. Heads looked good, radiator is toast from the looks of it! Going to replace the cam while I am at it and get the heads redone.

If your putting in a performance cam, make sure to get new valve springs.
