Exclamation Rear Diff

Can someone please explain the parts of the Diff I found chunks today that looked like pieces of chain. Are the bearings needle bearings? I have a 8 1/4 3.55 rear differential I need to know what parts I need to order I did not find any pieces of gears the ring a pinion look good not nicks or scratch's in either gear. Right now both wheels are locked rear wheel spins in turns its kinda cool in a morbid way.

If both wheels are locked how is one spinning?

Do you have an open differential?

If you are locked up and need to work on it anyways, I would venture to say it won't hurt to remove the gearing and exactly what is broken. You should inspect everything in there for damage regardless of what broke, chunks of metal being eaten up by your gears could have damaged other pieces. When you take everything apart be sure to mark it all, for example, the shims on the left and right, so you can replace everything on the same side it came out of.

Somone else can feel free to correct me if they disagree.

its a open diff. Both wheels are locked together like a locker rearend. And no I am not driving now. I just want to get and idea of what has made those pieces.

By memory yes the berrings are rollers. You can look at the parts manuals in the FAQ2.

I was just looking at that the guts of mine look more like the spicer 70-71 with power lock. Is there anyway this can fit in a chrysler 8 1/4 carrier? Is there an after market kit for this?

Again the parts manuals in the FAQ has a brake down of the parts. I just checked. It does have one for the LSD.

I think he's right Crazy. The factory LSD for our trucks is the Trac-Lok, not the sure grip, so if he's correct about which diff is in his truck, it won't be in the factory manual (unless they are assembled the same way).

Soar_Dude, you're going to have to contact whoever makes the sure-grip and ask them cause I don't think anyone else here has one.
