Default How to identify engine?

good morning, folks. my auto transmission is almost toast. i lost reverse last night, and it rarely hits third gear.

i am trying to identify both components to survey my options. i read earlier that the transmission is stamped on the driver's side.

where is the engine stamp?

There were only a V6 and a Inline 4 Cyl. So determin how many spark plugs you have 6 or 4. Then you have your answer.
V6 3.9L TBFI 125HP 1988
4 Cly. 2.2L Carb. 96HP 1987-1988
The info is in the FAQ in this section.
The block number is usually in the back by the bellhousing on the driver side. I'm not to sure on the 4cly. But it doesn't tell you the size. It is just a code. Then you have to find out the the code stands for.

If your replacing the engine or transmission you will want to stick with what came stock. And not what is in there now. If your planning to upgrade then that is a different story.

Well if you want to find out what you have the casting number is what you want to find. But good luck finding somewhere to to tell you what it meens. Maybe your local dealership. But your best bet is www.googe.com type in "dodge v6 casting numbers". You can try this site. http://www.aacncclub.com/
