Default 93 Dakota Refrigerant Refill?

I own a 1993 Dakota V6 engine and about 165,000 miles on it. I think my A/C needs a refrigerant refill because all it blows out is warm air. Last year I did a lot of work on my vacuum hoses and cleaned out all the vents and hoses so I know that nothing else could be the blame.

So what I need to know is how do I refill my A/C with refrigerant. I have a Haynes manual that has directions but I need better instructions. I saw the big cans of 135a refrigerant at my local auto store so I know I can legally buy it.

Please Help

Thanks

R-134a was used on 1994+ Dakotas. Yours uses R-12 unless a conversion has been done.

The stem to charge the system is different for R-12 and R-134a systems.
You always charge the A/C system on the low side, which is on the passenger side fenderwall.

You will need to covert the AC system if it is R-12. You can do it yourself if you have a vacuum pump. And get the pieces in a kit like this one. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...questid=293220

Or take it to a quality shop and have them do it. With a shop it can be pricey. But it will be done right with the correct amount of Freon and the right amount of oil.

Yea, it's important to get the right amount of refrigerant and oil. I replaced my compressor and I think I used too much oil = not a lot of cold air.

Yep, I added refrigerant and it had oil in it, ended up with too much oil. Haven't bought a vacuum yet to fix it myself. I have a small leak somewhere that I will have to pull the UV dye out for.

My 90 had the same issue and I had it filled with the old R-12 at a auto A/C shop not long ago..
