Default Part or fix?

Just looking for opinions on this one. In my quest to find transfer case parts(problem solved for now), I came across a 2wd 93 dakota with the 318 and a blown transmission.

My question to you is, I originally looked at it for a parts car. I got it with a trade, and I had 200 in what I traded for it. So its not like Im out anything too bad either way. The body is near perfect, motor is good and runs strong with no ill smoking or sounds. Interior is good. Pretty much seems like a great truck shy the transmission. I need some token things such as tail light assemblies and such. Mine are good enough to be used, so I could swap for the better ones and still have functional in the other.

So....would you part it or swap in a fresh transmission and drive it?

I would say it depends on if you can find a good transmission. It sounds like it would be a good fixer uper. If all it needs is lights after the tranny, then it sounds like it should be good.

Thanks man. I didnt think it would, but at that price for the shape its in its a shame. If anyone in the nebraska area needs a good 2wd transmission let me know. There is also a 5.9 and tranny for sale here for 650.

Ill post pics of the truck tomorrow when I get home.

I would keep an eye out for the tranny you need and fix it up. If it was a V6 I would say think about parting it and putting it out of its misery (jk, mine served me well tonight). But if it is a good runner you will come acrossed a tranny sooner or later.

Finally got her home. Ended up getting an even better deal than I originally negotiated on it.

The truck is fantastic. Mine is in what I would call good to great shape for a 93, and this one is even nicer. No body rust at all, minimal scratching and scuffs. Well.....for a 15 year old truck anyway. The interior is AMAZING. Ive seen 3-4 year old trucks that are babied that look worse. Paint isnt great. Its got a mishmash of tires on it(and the non matching is my spare, the tire on the good rim was shot). Overall Im very impressed. The carpet looks 10 times worse in the picture than in real life.

The motor is almost silent. Ive never heard a v8 that was so quiet. Mines not loud by any means, but even revved this motor is nice and quiet. I know thats more exhaust than anything, but it made me happy. Looks like its got a number of new parts, alternator, radiator...ect.

The guy told me he never drove it, but that the transmission is most likely shot because "the tranny pan is in the back".

So Im actually really hopeful that with the condition of the rest of the truck it actually works and he just never knew.

The bad is I dont have a title. Hes trying to track down the parents of the previous owner(skipped town). I think I can probably get a bonded title even if that falls through.

I would feel really bad tearing this thing apart. .....enough babble. Pics below.

The white is a 93 2wd v8, and the green is a 93 4x4 v8. Ive got a lot pulled off my 4x4 fixing and replacing and such. The front doesnt really sit that high, its on jack stands so I can play underneath. The rear is ride hight, with 31x10.5 BFG AT/s

Cool! Glad it worked out for you. Your green truck looks like mine. Well without as much mud on it, it would.

Turns out a bonded title is a bunch of bad words to get. So Im saying F it and parting the truck. If any of you guys need parts Ive got a ton of good ones. Just shoot me a pm and Ill get ya hooked up. Theres a post in the marketplace too.

If anyone is interested in the lowering aspect of the shackle flip Ive got my 4wd hangers just sitting here already ready to go. All painted and everything
