1990 dodge dakota fuel pump issues

Default 1990 dodge dakota fuel pump issues

hello im new to this fourm i have a 1990 dodge dakota 2wd x cab lt that has some fuel problems what happens is i turn on the key and verry little fuel come out of the tank (pump just bumps on and then off in a split second) i was wondering what would do this the fuel pump works fine when i take it out and test it just isnt getting any power that i can tell please if anyone knows what would be the cause of this id love to know and thanks in advance

When you turn the key ON, but not start, the fuel pump will only turn on for a second or so.
If your having a problem with the fuel pump not turning on (i.e. you get no fuel after you start/try to start the engine), you might need to modify the wiring for the fuel pump so that it runs anytime the key is ON or START.
But, if you aren't having problems with the truck running after starting the engine, you have nothing to worry about, it's normal.

what would be the easy way to wire the fuel pump to the iginition ? i have a haynes manual but still cant seem to find out in the wireing diagrams where i can conect the fuel pump to the ignition thanks for the speedy awnser

Yes it would be easy to wire it up to the ignition. But remember you should still use a relay so you don't over heat the ignition switch, due to to much current draw. And install a fuse inline just incase of something fails, so you wont burn up wires.

got the fuel pump working properley there was a lil black bag on the fuel pump that was messed up but now i have no spark i tryed a known good coil and it still didnt create spark what would do this? i replaced the cap and rotor already thinking that was the problem and also when i try to start it a big puff of greyish blackish smoke pops out of the carbarator im fearing for the worst on that any info would be gladley taken and apritiated
