trouble starting
once in awhile my truck will not start. but i give it some gas till it turns over and it starts. also black smoke comes out of the exhaust, i have no idea any ideas would be appreciated. i have a 89 3.9L 2wd

Sounds like an intermittent idle air controller. You might try remove it (located on the back of the throttle body) and clean it as well as where it goes into the throttle body.
