Default Anyone running a 408 as daily driver?

Thinking about a rebuild for my 5.9. Just wondering if anyone is running a 408 as a daily driver and if they have had any issues. Looking for any info on parts and tuning I can find before I start buying parts.

Thanks for any help.

And now we wait for 95_318SLT to respond.

He has been planning out his 408 for a little while now and collecting parts as he goes.

Hughes Engines offers some kits and info if you want to check it out.

I don't know first hand how they do as a daily driver.... yet... but from what I've read they are just as reliable as the 360.

As for parts, summitracing.com and hughesengines.com should have everything you need.

My build is planned as follows:
Pistons: http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...j&partid=10462
Factory connecting rods
Crankshaft: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ESP-436040006123/
Cam: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-20-746-9/
Heads: http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...=&partid=25495
Rockers: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CSP-S70037/
Timing Chain: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-2103/
Chain Tensioner: http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/p...=&partid=11213

I think that was everything in terms of performance parts. Other than that, I'll get all new bearings and gaskets.

I also did the keggar mod on the intake manifold and got a cheap set of shorty headers.

That is my planned build in a nutshell, feel free to use any of those parts that like.

As for tuning, there is a link in FAQ2 for a company that can re-flash the ECM. Other than that, you'd probably have to go with a stand alone system and spend a while on a dyno.

*EDIT*
I just saw you have a '96, so you have the OBDII computer. Hughesengines can reflash the OBDII computers. I'm not sure if the site linked in FAQ2 does OBDII as well but I would assume so.

Hey thanks for all of the info. This gives me plenty to look over for now. This is my 2nd Dakota. The first one is the black and silver one on my profile. I just did the 5.9 conversion, new interior with gen 2 seats and a few more small things.

I just picked up my 96 and trying to figure out what I want to do this time. I don 't drive it all of the time, but it is my only transportation when I go home. So it has to be dependable. However, I want it to GO when it's time.

Thanks again for the info. If you don't mind, I may pick your brain from time to time before I get started on mine.
