Default Ecm...

So after some troubleshooting I have found my ECM is shot, the ECM was purchased from Napa auto parts a couple years ago I have heard the aftermarket referb ECM's are prone to failure. I am wondering if you guys know of a good place to have my ECM rebuilt, or somewhere that sells referbs at a decent price with a good warranty. Also I am getting mixed information, I am being told by one shop I can take the ECM from one truck and plug it right into the next with no issues. I call another place and they are telling me oh no you are going to have to have the ECM programmed before it can be used. Thanks for you help!

I would ask around in here, check the classifieds in the forum, and Craigslist for trucks that are being parted out. Possibly eBay. What truck you need one for?

I have looked on craigslist found 1 for $100 but I can get one from a wrecking yard for $30 however it makes me nervous I might end up with the same problem after a month or two. The truck is a 93 Dakota 5.2

Just make sure you get the same year as your truck. In the FAQ2 in this section we have one company that will reprogram but is up to $500 or so.

For $30 I would say it is worth the risk. Just my opinion though.
