Default woes of the dakota

well 2 weeks ago i decided to go ahead and replace my cam sensor to see it that would stop a little miss that i had every now and then and it did! so i am all excied so me and my girl go up town in it and i am in the middle of 5:00 traffic and the fan clucth slings its f'in oil out everywhere and the truck starts running hot, because it is 97 degrees out. so we made it to the mall with her running a little warm and waited till it cooled off some and the traffic slowed doen to go home. so i went to the j-yard the next day and decided to go ahead and get another electric fan to put on since the one i had before was screwed up and i had to go back mechanical. got an intrepid fan and got it all installed to the switch i already had wired up. when i was putting the loom on the wires under the hood, my dumb *** leans over on my subwoofer fuse and breaks its little plastic housing which causes the 0 gauge wire to hit the proportioning valve and try to weld its self to it. this would not have been to bad, except i had the key on listening to the radio. so needless to say alot of things went pop and it would not start. after days of having my nose stuck in my service manual testing the pcm(thank god it was ok) and other stuffi found out it had blown the brand new cam sensor!!! but i warrantyed it out, :P. so i get all this done, take it down the road she is running great again so i decide its time to put it on the jackstands and put the Mopar PPH headers i got 6 months ago on. get all the old exahust off and start to out the headers on and the damn things did not fit. th collector hit my shift linkage on the drivers side. so i bolted them up real tight and went to the shed and got the port-a-power hydraulic wedge and put it between the frame and collector. started the truck up and held it at about 3 grand with no o2 hooked up until they were glowing red and pumped it out till it cleared the linkage! so now i am in the process of making a y pipe for the mid-lenth headers that does not exist anymore. and i have no tubing bender but i do have a welder and sawzall, so it not pretty but i should be done tomorrow. hopefully..... so its been on the jack stands for about 1.5 weeks now and i need them to rebuild the front end on my samurai, so i had to get to work. it is not supposed to be as hot the next few days so maybe i can get some stuff done. i have some pics of course that i will upload when it is all done. hope you enjoyed my novel, lol.

I seem to be able to relate. I swear, after I get my truck road-worthy again, I'm only doing maintenance to it if I have to. (But, I'll change my mind on that!)
At least you were able to get it home safely after the fan gave out.

I hate electrical problems. Now imagine how much that would have cost you a mechanic. Makes you feel better then.

And Dodgerules, I am the same way saying I will only maintain it, but that lasts about one month for me and I am back at it doing stuff again.

Dang that sucks! The S*** hits the fan quick doesn't it. The worst thing that happened to me was yesterday I was coming back from my fishing trip. I was towing my 22ft trailer and blew a tire on the dual axle trailer. I had to change it on the freeway. Man was that scary, cars and trucks blowing by at 75mph some I swore had to going 100+ and getting close. Now i have to buy a new tire and a new rim!

here is my ugly home made y pipe, it is not very pretty but its gets the job done i guess. i did not want to make that sharp bend there but i think it will be ok, i made it nice and smooth on the inside with a metal burr, it just looks like poo from the outside, lol. it woud have been nice to have a tubing bender.....

some quick header pics, the nickel finish has changes colors, but still looks better than the rusty manifolds.

i will get some better pics tomorrow when there is more light.

instead of making a home-made y-pipe, why didnt you just do true dual exhaust? it would have sounded better and looked better IMO

You could have done dual-exhaust and stuck the O2 sensor in the X-or-H pipe.
But, that would require you to modify the wiring (to reach the X/H pipe)

Or, you could just do it your way!
