Default starter issues

everytime i go to start the truck, more often than not, the starter just clicks. sometimes it clicks and half assed engages. sometimes its fine. once in a while then starter will stick on and i have to rev the engine to get it to disengage.. is that the starter solenoid? if so, where is it located? my battery terminals are fine. would maybe the PDC splice cause this?

any help is appreciated considering this problem is becoming more frequent and it is really getting annoying!

Your starters goin bad, thats half the sh*t we dealt with for a little while with a vehicle we had years ago, sometimes we had to use a scrue driver to get the starter to crank by manualy pushing it befor it finally died

its getting to the point where it clicks so much that i get pissed off and give up... usually after about five minutes of clicking. ive only had to hit it with a hammer once, but its getting to the point where i think hitting it is the only way to get it to work. i had also had my mechanic suggest to me to take the starter off and clean up all the terminals, but looking at it, i cant figure out how to get the friggin thing off and i lost my haynes manual for it.

anyone have a diagram of how to take it off?

That though could also mean (with the clicking) that your batteries getting weak and cant hold/push out as much power because my mom used to have an 88 Camaro that did that durring the winter time and it eventualy got a new battery and it solved it until she traded it to get an 03 Liberty

but thats the thing, the battery gauge reads the battery to be at roughly an eighth into the normal line. the starter draws the power, but does nothing but clicks..

If your confident in your battery and contacts it may well be the starter. Im not sure if your truck has an external solenoid on the starter or not. Honestly any more its not much cheaper to try to do that. Might as well just get a new starter and have a warranty and such. The starter on my truck is easy to get to and pretty easy to remove. Not sure on yours, never messed with one. I would pop the starter off and take it in to be tested if nothing else.

im confident in the battery and the battery contacts, but not the starter contacts. its just to me, the y-pipe seems to look like it will get in the way. not sure tho, never done a starter before. im gunna just take the starter out, clean all the contacts on the solenoid and starter, and then if that doesnt fix it, then i guess its time for a new starter. im done playing with this stupid starter!!!!

I would take it in and have it tested while its out. It may cost you 20 minutes if its good, but it will save you a hell of a headache if its not.

It would suck to pull it, clean it, install it, pull it, buy one, install it.

Just my .02

This will show you where your bolts are.

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/cat...estions=%5B%5D

Here is a vauge walkthrough

http://www.ehow.com/how_4828441_repl...ge-dakota.html

from the autozone picture the bolts look like they would be up high enough you should be able to get to them. Hard to tell without being able to see the truck though.
