NV3500 diversity
I have read that the nv3500 is used in other vehicles.
1. Dakotas
2. S10 83 an newer with a 4.3 vortexes
3. Jeeps?
Add to the list if you know of any aim very interest in this it shows the diversity of this transmission it apparently is also used behind some 350 Chevy’s. Please say anything you want on this transmission I would love to hear what you think about it...
Also does this transmission have any weakness’s is there one year that better than the other..I read that the ones from 96 (last year before changing the Dakotas body style) and before are the tougher of the nv3500?!?!?! This does not make to much since to me but maybe the changed something up when making the new body style
I don't know much about the NV3500. But from what I hear it is good. I'm sure only a dodge NV3500 will fit though. Hopefully 95 318SLT will chime in. But I can offer a link for info on what else uses it. You may have seen this site already. http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_cata...#ChryslerDodge
Crazy is right, you need to stick with a Dodge NV3500 because the bellhousing is intergral to the body of the transmission. It isn't removable.
As far as a tranny goes they are a pain to rebuild, and very picky, but they are a good transmission all around. Not sure about different years being better than others.

haha ya i know they arent interchangeable.but the concept of the transmission is the same.and used throughout a bunch of vehicals which i think is cool.
ya i have heard they are very strong...my buddys parents have a 2000 dakota sport model with a nv3500.they ended up loosing 5th and reverse.so they took it in to the mechanic and he said that around every 90,000 it will happen..and that its the one weekness of the transmission.ya they had it rebuilt and it had a as he discribed it to me.what sounded like a marble spining around a steal cup...nice sound im sure.lol.but the mechanic fixed it free..apparently there screw up.this time they just got a new transmission.
some im kinda hoping his is one of the few that are doing this.
