Some more info will help. Does it get too hot? Is it running lean or rich? Has the carberator ever been rebuilt? Does it spudder and stall, or just flat out stall? Does it stall while your moving or do you need to be at a stop? If I remember right, those early carbbed Dakotas have computer controlled carberators, so they would run different when cold and when up to temperature, so it could be a computer issue. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head with no other information about the issue.

i would assume its likely an o2 sensor problem, cuz like 95_318SLT said, the early yeared daks have computer controlled carbs, which means the o2 sensor is still there. if not, then check the wires going to the computer. i had an old friend that had that problem, he took every wire out of the computer harness clip, cleaned them, and reconnected them and it worked fine. could be, or could not be your issue, but its food for thought i guess..
