That should be the corporate 8.25" but you can double check here...

For a list of LSDs, you can look here...

For a list of lockers, you can look here...

I would suggest looking around on that site, it has a lot of good information...

I think you are right, it's a Chrysler 8.25. Thanks for your help with this. I'll post back later, I'll have to figure out how to approach this.

One guy in the 2nd gen dakota section is selling his LSD. It is for a 2nd gen but with a quick axle shaft swap you can use it.

Are you sure? I've looked into doing a 29 spline swap but through my research I've been lead to believe the 29 spline shafts are slightly longer than our 27 spline shafts...

I believe your correct. I have 2 complete axle assemblies, 1 off a '98 Dakota and the other off a '01 Durango. They are 1 inch wider (.5 inches on each side) than ours. They are 9.25" housings, but I doubt that matters cause the 8.25" should be the same width.

Just checked they did do a axle shaft swap. They said it fit right in. Check out https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...swap-pics.html

So it is a easy swap.

Sweet! I never mind being wrong when it comes to upgrading parts. Although both of my trucks have posi 9.25" rear ends, so technically this doesn't affect me.

Thank agains guys, you've all been a great help and I'm glad to see the information in this thread growing.

Well, I took the unit out today and figured I could loosen the carriage bolts to releive the pressure from the springs and it worked great. I just have to put the unit back in now. Only the spider gears were out of place and were easy to put back in place and the spring assembly went back in place with a little push as well. Dangdakota will ride again!
