Question 3.9 interchange question

Hi, I'm looking to buy an '87 Dakota with a 3.9 that is supposed to be bad. I know that 87 was the only year that they were carbed, but will other year engines work if the intake and other things were swapped over? If so, what years will work?

Thanks,
Josh

It depends what your looking for in specific, ive got an 87 with the 3.9 but im lookin for a LA318 and tranny to put in because i want more power, though what should work would be LA3.9(1986-1991) or an LA V8 if you dont want to deal with more advanced and complicated computers and fuel injection systems, with the LA all you need is the computer for the tbi though if you want to stay with the carb use the computer thats hooked up

What do you mean though by it supposedly being bad, do you not know or is it almost destroid?
