New Engine
I didn't mean clutch as in a manual, I meant clutches, as in the clutch packs in an automatic. One of the big differences in the 42rh and the 46rh is the clutch packs they use... the 46 either has more clutches per pack or stronger ones (I can't remember) and you'll burn them up in no time with that v8. You'll have to either get a 46rh or put performance clutch discs in the 42rh with a shift kit. The shift kit makes the transmission shift faster and harder which means the clutches aren't slipping near as much.
As for the fan shroud, you can probably cut it.

ok lol, sorry about that .. I kinda figured thats what you meant. But im not all that informed about everything.. So about this. where can you get these performance clutch plates?.. and also. about making it posi, you have to do the front and rear right? or am I wrong.. do you know of any sites where to get everything I need?.
This is for the 46rh, not the 42, but summit doesn't seem to have any rebuild kits for the 42... but this is the kind of kit you'll need (just look around for the 42):

And for the shift kits, you could get one of these depending on how hard you want it to shift:

As for posi, you can do the front, rear, or both. You have two basic choices, the first one is to get a limited slip differential, the second is to get a locker. For the LSD, the cheapest one would be the dana trac-lok (this is the factory dodge lsd), or the more expensive route is go with one like auburn gear. For the locker, you can get a powertraxx no slip locker that only replaces the spider gears in your open differential carrier and is cheaper and much easier to install, or you could get something like a detriot locker which is a full carrier.
If you choose to do the front, you should use a LSD, not a locker, because a locker will make turning near impossible in the front. A locker will give you the best off road traction for the rear though.
You can look for these differentials on ebaymotors, summitracing, or most any differential or offroad website.

thats great, thank you for all the Information on this.. its all going to depend what I can find.. Im going to get the engine though, and put that in.. Im going to decide after wards.. Im going to be looking for the 46rh.. but if i cant find any,.. deff going the route of building up the 42rh. But I would say it would be cheaper and easier to find a 46rh.. but yet there is not alot around here... maybe let me know, if you see any online anywhere.
They are plentiful here, I wouldnt think it would be that much different there. They were in vans, trucks, dakotas.....all kinds of stuff. So you wouldnt have to limit yourself to looking in just daks.
Good call on the injectors 318......Ive been fighting my new to me monte carlo and the PO's moronic spark plug/wire mess. Aparently Im not paying that close of attention.
If you want an inexpensive good limited slip for the rear look at a Lockrite. Ive run 3 now and had good luck with all of them. I think crazy might have one too?????
I sold my 46rh for 425 bucks with all linkages and the torque converter. I kept the Tcase. The dude was gonna put it behind a 454......yeah......right. BOOOM. Anyway, I see them all the time for under 600 in working condition.

you say lock rite? I will have to check that out.. summit racing have those?
LMAO!! Kinda makes you wonder if the transmission even made it the end of his driveway! They are strong transmissions if you can keep them cool, but not behind a 454!
hey, this is actually from the same guy.. check it out
