Can't he just bring an angle grinder and cut the U-bolts, unhook the shock, driveshaft, and brake lines and he should be good. Or am I missing something here? This is assuming the guy is going to let him take the whole rear axle.

Not sure how different the posi is from the LSD, but I removed the limited slip out of a rear axle in about 20 minutes. Installing it will take much longer but I am not in a hurry. I will probably take it somewhere and let somone else set it.

A LSD is a Posi. And I agree it wont take long. Just remove the cover then the crosspin/ c-clips. Slide out axles. Remove the 4 bearing Carrier bolts. Adjust down the side adjusters. And done!

Lol. Yes thats true its not a super hard process. But if youve never even looked at the guts of an axle before its not a 30 minute job. Especially not if the guy still wants the thing to roll when hes done with it.

If your taking the whole axle then skip all the internals. But getting off the U-Bolts can be a pain in the A$$. Depending how bad it is, I guaranty at least 1-2 hours to remove the complete axle. Your other option is take out the leaf spring bolts and take it all, and mess with it at home.

I thought you were pulling just the guts. The whole rear would take less time than the guts to me.

You just need a 1/2 ratchet and a few sockets, and a heavy duty set of side cutters for the brake lines. Pop both the shackle bolts out on each side, cut the brake lines, and take off the 4 3/8ths bolts in the driveshaft and your on your way. Take a few wrenches to brace the backside of the shackle bolt/nut while your working on it.

Or just take an angle grinder and cut the ubolts, being careful not to cut the axle tube.

There were several different options from the factory. Only way to tell is if it has a tag or to pull the cover and count the teeth on the ring gear and the pinion.
