Default Nice find.

Hey.. just wanted to say what I came across the other day, I was selling some winter tires and rims.. and a guy that came to look at them was telling me about all the dakotas he has. Well anyways the other day I saw him.. so he waved me in. We were just talkin about the trucks.. and how I wanted POSI. well.. he offered me a free limited slip rear end for my truck.. all I got to do is go pick it up before he takes the rest of the truck to the junkyard!. So thats not bad.. just going to have to remove it. How long would you think this would take to remove? and special things I should know?

Honestly it would be easier and faster to swap axles assuming your u bolts are in good shape and his axle is in good shape.

Otherwise do a search, Im pretty sure there is a walkthrough somewhere on here, I remember seeing a bunch of pics anyway.

Its not too bad....but doing it your first time without a book or something to look at can be tough. Id say going blind eye and just having at it your looking at a good 2-3 hours.

It would be good experience. Especially if you plan to put it back in yourself. Print of the FSM here and take it with you or go buy a Haynes, or Chilton manual. Your getting a free LSD so spending 20 bucks on a book or .10 on printer paper aint a big deal.

Also, if you do it yourself and show an aptitude maybe the dude will hook you up again in the future. I find its best to do exactly what guys who have things you want and are giving them to you for free ask of you.

LOL! I know you can print off just the pages you want, but hearing someone say print off the FSM just sounds funny cause its over 1400 pages.

Anyway... I would say removing the rear axle from his truck should take about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how rusty the bolts are.

The link is in FAQ2. There is a link for the '95 FSM, the '96 FSM, and the Parts manual for our trucks.
