Default Motor Question

Hey, I asked before but im lookin at a 92 dakota 4x4 with the 318, I can buy the whole truck,... reason why i want this is for the 318 I went to look at it today.. it has the stock motor.. but it says V8 EFI on the side.. i thought if its a V8 Magnum it should show this.. does this mean this is not a magnum?... and If it is not.. is it still worth getting?.. would it fit, or would it have any more power then my V6 magnum? thanks

Its probably a magnum but i couldnt really tell you but a stock LA 318 will probably push out about the same amount of power your magnum 3.9 does but ive been told that you can easily get like 300HP by switching and changing parts inside of it, dont know the effect on gas milage though

Yes it is a magnum. EFI Electronic Fuel Injection. That would be for any Fuel Injection system that is Electronically controlled.

If you want to know for sure, just look at the motor itself and ignore badging. The magnums will have 8 fuel injectors at the sides of the intake manifold, whereas the LA will have 2 fuel injectors in the throttle body. But like said before... '92 and up are magnums.

well thats good to know then!, few more questions though.. the transmission im not to sure about.. Im going to pick up the truck anyways, cause I can get it for 500$, but the transmission is weird.. when its in 2 its in drive, and 1st its in 2nd gear I think?.. kinda hard to tell.. cause it doesnt correctly go in.. I know you can adjust this.. but the thing is when I took off, it goes up to 3 grand before it shifts, then shifts kinda hard. its almost like your driving in 2nd gear. Think this is a possibility that its just the adjustment on the shift column.. or maybe gear "drive" is gone?. If not, what would I need.. just to adjust the shift column, anything else?

anyone?
also just a question.. I know you guys told me its the magnum V8, but I know my motor.. I have the stick ons for the side of the fender that say V6 Magnum.. and I seen other dakotas with the V8 Magnum.. why would this truck have the V8 EFI logo on the fender ?. Im double guessing myself on this one.

Could be an aftermarket or a badge off a different truck. Like 318 said, if its got 8 injectors on 2 rails its a magnum. I wouldnt question it anymore than that.

Transmission sounds like it could either be blown or the linkages could be messed up. Youd have to get under it and fish around to find out. Its also possible that the piece that drops down to the main linkage(has a spring and retainer bolt) has lost its retainer bolt and is just moving around and not letting you access or retain all the shift points.

Yes it is a magnum. 92- 93 had those badges mine even does. Like I said EFI applies to all fuel injected engines so from late 70's on some all the way to 2009 and higher. So EFI doesn't stand for throttle body injection.
