Hi everyone, recently I have been having some issues with my 92 dakota v6. Ever since I purchased it about a year ago it has idled a little bit rough but not enough to really bother me.
About a week ago it really started having trouble. It would start and run but die seconds later. It would only stay runing if i kept my foot on the gas. It also has had a issue where when u rev the engine the rpm's would dip after to the point where it felt like it was going to die (200rpm ish).
I asked my dad about it, and he said I should replace the IAC so i did that. Ever since i replace the IAC it idles really high, around 1800rpm, but the rpm doesnt dip when I rev it anymore. The next thing I tried was the TPS and the PCV valve to no avail, still idles really high. I have no idea what the problem is and any help would be greatly apreciated.
Thank You!

I got a bad IAC the first time I replaced mine. One thing I realized is that the computer needs a few days of driving to figure out the new sensor and will idle high. If it has been a week or more already, then you probably have a bad sensor, otherwise, I'd say give it it couple more days. You could also try resetting the computer by unplugging the battery for a 20-30 minutes.
The only other thing I can think of besides the IAC is the MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor. The computer takes the pressure readings from the manifold to help determine the idle speed.

The thing thats bothering me is before I changed the IAC it was idling low/ rough now it is idling really high. Is there anything to keep in mind when putting it in or is it just the 2 screws and the connector? Also I cannot move the new valve with my hand at all, is this normal? I think I will try to take it back to autozone if I can find my recipt. Its been about a week since I changed it and I will also look into the MAP sensor and try reseting the computer.
Thanks for the help

If its frozen like you say, take it back and get a new one. It definately sounds like its bad. There is nothing else you need to worry about but the 2 screws and connector. Like I said, it's the computers job to work out the new part. Since no two electrical devices are EXACTLY alike, the computer will have to learn the new part.
