Default Redline?

Does anybody know the official redline of the 318 magnum in these trucks? I know there is that "yellow" zone on the tach that starts at 4800 and goes to the top of the tach at 6k. Is this actually the redline or is it safe to turn the motor higher?

I know this seems like a random question, but I was trying to find an unofficial (out on the road with a stopwatch, not on a track) 0-60 time of my truck since putting on the modded intake manifold and it just happens to hit 55 mph at 4800 in 2nd, forcing me to shift into 3rd for the extra 5 mph. I was getting a consistent 8.7-8.8 second time and figured this time could be brought down a good bit if I tached 2nd up higher and didn't have to make the shift into 3rd.

Just out of curiosity, Crazy, if you happen to read this thread, do you know your truck's 0-60 time with the 360 in it?

Stock computer rev limiter is 5200, Mopar PCMs like we have, rev limits at 6K. Mine starts to float valves around 5600-5700.

Since I have smaller tires, hitting 5500 RPMs in 2nd only gets me to 55MPH.

I've heard several people say the bottom end on these are good past 6K.

Yeah, I've heard these mopar perf pcms set the rev limiter at like 6300, but either way, I don't think I'll ever find it!!!

Another question... I understand what valve floating is, but how can you tell while driving that the valves are floating?.... I've never gotten the truck up that high in rpms.

Basically you'll hear sound out of the intake more and you stop accelerating, it's hard to describe it but you'll definitely know what it is when you hear it.
In this video of my truck while I was awkwardly holding the camera I was late on a 1-2 shift and floated the valves, the sound didn't come out very well on video but oh well.

Hahns, have you recalibrated your speedometer to compensate for the larger than stock tires? I was just thinking about it and did the math. Apparently with the NV3500 (I think I have the close ratio version, not the wide ratio, so I assume you do too?) and 3.55s I should hit 60 in 2nd at 4900, so I think my speedometer is slightly off, or maybe just slow (cause I've seen it still climb while shifting gears before). Your truck with 30 inch tires and the NV3500 and 3.55s should hit 60 in 2nd at 5200.

It's within 0.5% according to my GPS. Most tires measure short, mine are around 29". I'm calculating 5725 RPMs for me to hit 60MPH in 2nd.

Wide ratio=4:1 1st? If so, yes, I have the wide ratio.

Well, what I'd call the close ratio version has a 3.49 1st and 2.16 2nd, and what I'd call the wide ratio version has a 4.01 1st and 2.32 2nd.

I've always assumed based on the behavior of my truck that I have the close ratio version, but now that I've gone down this road of doing actual math to figure it out, I might have the wide ratio version... cause the 2.32 ratio at 4800 rpm is 55 mph like my speedometer says. So if we both have the wide ratio version, your right.

So if I have the wide ratio version, I'd hit 60 at 5300 in 2nd. That sounds do-able from what you've said about these engines.

For me I get probably around 0-60 in 4.4sec. Ill prove it too. Let me do some video editing first. I probably get around 8-9 I haven't checked in a while since my transmission was crap. When I get a chance tomorrow I will try to check. I have never hit the rev limiter on my truck. I have pushed it up to 6,000 for a brief second.

LMAO, thats funny. I'm guessing if I grabbed the clutch at 2400 instead of 1800 and pushed my truck up to 5200 in 1st and past 5300 in 2nd instead of shifting at 4800, I could get my 0-60 time down to 8 seconds flat, but it's hard to say without actually trying. I was pushing it hard the other day when I was messing around with it but I wasn't trying to blow it up either. Lol, I can't blow it up until my new truck is done :P

Did you notice your valves starting to float when you hit 6k?

What so bad about blowing it up? ... Oh wait, that's right. You might actually need it to drive places. My bad!
