Default Tire choices

Hey Guys. I am in need of some new tires and I am getting really tired of radials. To me, they just dont seem to wear well on trucks and you are constantly having to check the tire pressure in order to maximize tear wear. So I am looking for a truck tire and so far I am liking what I hear and read about the firestone/bridgestone destination A/T. Everyone has been giving them 9s out of 10 and seem to love the way that they handle on nice as well as winter days. Also looking at the goodyear wrangler silent armor as it has very comparible reviews but will cost me about 60 bucks more. But before I commit myself to one or the other I would like to hear what everyone is using and their personal views.

I had some destination A/T's on my suburban. The shoulder wore pretty bad for being at the recommended pressure and alignment. They were a decent tire, quiet and had decent traction.

I had them on the burban for around 10,000 miles, so I cant give you a truely open perspective. I only really owned them for a short part of their lifespan. I am biased towards the more agressive tires, so I disliked them for lack of traction in mud/slick situations during hunting.

For a road/gravel/travelling tire im sure they are great. If you do even mild offroading Id look elsewhere.

I honestly dont take the truck off road. Either gravel or pavement is where I will be. The radials I have are wearing badly on the shoulders even after getting the front end inspected, getting all four ball joints replaced (thanks moog), and getting an alignment. I have a Goodyear Wrangler A/T that I use as the spare on the truck. I had that on the driver side front along with one of my radials and it doesnt even begin to show cupping on the shoulder when the radial did. Sadly, they dont make the wrangler A/T anymore.

Yeah the wranglers are good tires.

Kinda spendy but the nitto a/ts are nice and roady and I hear nothing but good things. My buddy has them on his 04 ford and I like the way it drives. Does good in watery road situations and light sand trails.

I dont like tires that "bubble" out on the sides. Sadly most road tires have this rounded profile, and I think that makes them very prone to shoulder wear. The destinations fall into that catagory. Good tires, but I dont like the bubble or shoulder wear.

Im really partial to BFG at's. I know several people who have run them for more than 60,000 on a set. They typically get good wear results.

I dont do much for road tires, you may be best off to go to a good reputable shop and just ask around. Sometimes youd be suprised the answers you get, if the salesman is good at his job and not just good at making sales.

Yeah a co-worker has a older ford and has the bfgoodrich A/Ts on it, they look like they have been on that truck since birth but they still all have GOOD tread on them. But they bubble on the sides too.

Well after looking a lot of material and realizing I was probably overly investigating these tires I decided on the Firestone Destination A/Ts. They have received a lot of good praise and will be a good tire I feel for everything that I want in a tire. Plus they are very friendly on the pocket book.

Well, I changed my mind :P

Looks like I will be going a different route and getting the Hankook Optimo H727. 100,000 mile warranty and XL load rating.
