Default Looking for Advice - 1991 Dakota

I have a 1991 Dakota I would really like to rebuild. It's a 3.9 L, V6, Regular Cab, Long Box. I've never done a rebuild before, but am definetly gonna give it a try. I am looking for any advice you may have (i.e. where to start, good places to buy new parts, biggest engine that will fit, etc...).

Any words of wisdom you may have for me is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Rebuild is a vastly occupying term. Usually it means rebuilding the equipment you have, not replacing it. Sounds like your interested in a motor/tranny/ect swap. There are lots of good threads here on similar topics. Might want to give us some idea of where youd like to go with it.

Ie, v8, gas, diesel, staying with a dodge motor, putting in something else.

Several guys one here have switched from a v6 to a v8, so the threads are there. Some have gone from a 5.2 to a 5.9. Lots of options.

Then you have the guys that dont like autos(me included) who have/are swapping in manuals. 318 has swapped to an NV3500, and Im in the process of installing an NV4500 and NP241 combo.

Anything is possible with enough skill/effort.

Welcome to Dodgeforum!

When you say rebuild, do you mean you want to do a frame off build, or just throw a new engine into what you have?

Most of your questions can probably be answered from reading the faq and faq2 threads in this section. You should start by reading those and then ask about anything else that wasn't covered.

The biggest engine that will fit into these trucks directly without fabrication would be a 408 stroker built from a 360 block.

I will take a look at the threads you mentioned. I'm sure I will have questions.

Thanks guys,
