Default Vibration....

on my 91 x-cab 318 auto, if I hit the highway, and get up to about 65 MPH, or higher, the front-end begins to vibrate, shaking the entire truck... it's a relatively high-freq vibration, but enough to feel / hear.

Tomorrow, I am installing new shocks, wheel bearings, seals and pads, and having the rotors turned. All 4 tires are brand-new, and the wheels are NOT bent.

Does it sound like I'm on the right path? I have been hearing a roaring from the front, that is related to vehicle speed, not engine speed - which suggests the wheels bearings - since they're pretty checp, and no idea when they were last serviced - I'm just replacing them...

I ask, as on a FWD car I had, the torque converter went out, and acted very similar, but was much more violent.

I would swap the tires front to back. A new radial could still have a weak spot in the belting .

Good point - didn't think about that. I'll see what happens after I replace the bearing tomorrow, and go from there...

If that doesn't help, or doesn't eliminate it, it would be the cause of worn front end components.
Do a search for "death wobble". I don't know if it's such a problem with our IFS (independent front suspension), but SFA (solid front axle) Jeep's certainly have this issue.

Unfortunately new brakes squeal sometimes too. Sucks, my wifes landcruisers brakes are noisey no matter how much we spend on em.

Any word after the wheel bearing?

i believe i found the cause for mine, i removed the splash guards from the front inner fenders. i got up to 80 and didnt have the vibration anymore.

I never got to do my bearing on tuesday - we were doing the shocks first - and the prior owner drove the nuts PAST the shoulder on the streaded shaft, effectivekly WELDING the nut in place - we spent all day trying to cut the off...

Hmmm...I'll have to try and se about my splash sheilds, also - both are in rough shape... could be the cause...
