Default can't switch cold to hot (climate control)

well, it's been dipping down into the 40's here at night and when i tried to switch to warm air on my climate control it does NOT change the temperature. the slider piece was stuck on cold, but with some force i got it to move, but now it moves VERY freely like it's not doing anything but sliding.

any suggestions on what to look for when i take the dash apart to get the unit out?

Make sure the cable is still attached to the climate control unit. If it is then make sure that it is not broken further down the line. Repair or replace accordingly.

None that I could see. I tried following that cable but, it's buried pretty deep behind all the A/C and heating duct work.

Ok so it wasn't my cable. The black peice that is under the silver metal peice on the right side of top came out from under. So I put a tiny screw and washer to prevent it from happening again.
